A Coaster Among Friends

I think it might've been two or so years ago now (I don't really remember) that my mom first asked me to make her a new coaster for her soda bottles to sit on, but she wanted it fancier than normal. I'd made something like sixty simple-round hexagonal affairs that were nothing if not pedestrian. So when the word "fancy" tumbled from her lips that cool winter afternoon, I began an altogether fruitless search for a coaster pattern that appealed to her.

One day, something resembling a week later, I sat down with some red yarn and fiddled around with it for an hour or two. Thus was born A Coaster Among Friends:

A Coaster Among Friends

This pattern is the first one that I've consciously designed and committed to paper.
